Rachel Fleischer is a writer, director, and actor based in Los Angeles. Her award-winning first feature film WITHOUT A HOME (2011) documented the lives of the homeless in her native city. The SCJFF selected her short film THEY’RE WITH ME for inclusion in our 2020 Virtual Festival.

Now a working mother, Rachel will join us on Zoom to schmooze about her films, her life, her career, her family… who knows?

BLACK HAT tells the story of a married young Hasidic man with a secret taboo. Will his black hat give him away? Join producer Yaniv Rokah on Zoom to discuss the making of the film and the taboo of homosexuality in the Orthodox community.

Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm PDT

Thirty-five years in the making, the documentary LEAVING MEMEL – Refugees From The Reich tells the story of the Goren family, who had to flee their home in Memel (now Klaipeda), Lithuania, when the Nazis took over in 1941. Racial atrocities committed by the powerful are fairly common in human history, and this discussion with filmmaker Fred Finkelstein will touch on issues of human rights, immigration and racism in WWII and today.
